Bradford renter freed from £3360 contract

Our member Saba moved into a property that had not been cleaned, had unfinished walls, and a toilet that didn’t work. She said she wanted to terminate the contract and move somewhere else, but Cloud Homes refused her request. After ignoring our letters, we thought we should pay them a visit.

We occupied their office on Great Horton Road and refused to leave until we were given what our member deserved – termination of her contract and all the money returning. We were initially told it’s not possible, then that it would be possible maybe next week, to then having full confirmation by midday. Funny how a bit of people power can change things so quickly!

Our members stood strong and refused to be distracted, ignored, or pushed around. When Cloud Homes called the police on us, we didn’t back down. When they refused to speak to us, we didn’t back down. Even when they offered to ‘cancel the contract in the future’, we made sure to get in writing what we actually came for.

AND WE WON!

The contract is terminated and all her money will be returned. This is thousands of pounds and the freedom to live somewhere she feels safe.

If you’re reading this thinking about your housing, thinking about something you want to change in your community, or feel inspired to get out and support your neighbour, you are in the right place.
