This week, ACORN members disrupted a seminar held for landlords in Bristol ahead of the Renter’s Rights Act coming into effect. The seminar was marketed as an opportunity for landlords to discuss protecting their business and profits when the new changes come in.
We showed up to remind them that these rights are not an inconvenience they should try to find ways around. This new legislation was hard won by organisation including ACORN, and is a major step towards improving quality of life for renters.
Landlords at the seminar didn’t want to hear about the awful rental experiences of our members, or discuss why the new law is so important, instead they chose to shout over us, leave the room, and threaten violence. Landlords ignoring tenants… what a surprise!
Some attendees tried to suggest they were only concerned about complying with the new laws. Little did they know we had ACORN members undercover at the event who were told by fellow attendees to rush through their no fault evictions now before they become unlawful. Disgraceful!
Tenants are people, not profits, and now we’ve shown 60 landlords who we are that we won’t let them get away with screwing us over.
Landlords of Bristol… ACORN WILL BE WATCHING YOU!
The Renters’ Rights Act comes into force on May 1st 2026. We’ll be sharing more information in the coming weeks, watch this space!
