Local residents have stepped up their campaign against a Data Centre that is being planned to be built on Cardiff East Park and Ride.
After the council ignored residents’ emails and petitions, as well as in-person requests on ditching plans, local residents of Llanrumney, Llanedeyrn, Pentwyn, those living around the Rhymney trail & wider Cardiff came together to make their voice heard in the Cardiff Council Planning Committee Meeting on the 2nd of July.
But instead of hearing them out, councillors left mid-meeting. Watch the video here.
Cardiff Council are considering granting planning permission for a Data Centre to be built on the site of the Cardiff East Park and Ride, a vital transport link for many visting Cardiff & local residents’ access to the hospital.
The development will:
❌ Put severe strain on local energy, national grid and water infrastructure
❌ Potentially increase local resident utility bills to subsidise the infrastructure needed to support a data centre
❌ Run gas and diesel generators 24/7 creating noise and worsen air quality
❌ Result in the loss of vital transport links due to the closure of the park and ride service
❌ Permanently damage or destroy local wildlife systems
❌ Result in loss of green spaces and the amenity for local residents
There are also other significant concerns relating to flood risk, the scale of the development, heat island effect, lack of employment opportunities & traffic.
Local residents, organising with ACORN Cardiff and Ditch the Data Centre, have put forward two simple demands:
– DITCH THE DATA CENTRE
– SAVE THE PARK & RIDE
